Festival rules
Each of our categories following the following festival rules:
VERSE SPEAKING
- Time limit 2 minutes
- Poems must be recited not read. A copy of the chosen poem should be given to the adjudicator. Limited actions may be used but they should not detract from the recitation.
PROSE READING
- Time limit 2 minutes
- Books should be held and used. No photocopies allowed. Passages chosen must not go over the time limit or readings will be stopped and points deducted.
STORY TELLING
- Time limit 3 minutes
- Stories may be original or traditional but must not be read. Entrants may sit or stand.
SOLO ACTING
- Time limit 3 minutes
- No costumes or makeup. Small hand props only may be used.
GROUP ACTING
- Time limit 10 minutes
- No costumes or makeup. Small hand props only may be used. Groups must be no less than 3 and no more than 6.
CHORAL SPEAKING
- Time limit 10 minutes
- With the exception of key stage one all performances must be unaided. Groups should be no fewer than 8 and no more than 30.
DUOLOGUES
- Time limit 5 minutes
- No costume or makeup. Small hand props only may be used. Tables and chairs can be used.
PREPARED SPEECH
- Time limit 5 minutes
- Notes and some props may be used.
SPONTANEOUS IMPROVISATIONS
- Solo and duo. Time limit 3 minutes
- No costumes or makeup. The subject will be given to competitors just prior to the start of the class, 2 or 3 minutes preparation will be allowed.
PREPARED IMPROVISATION
- Time limit 3 minutes
- Rules as for other acting classes.
PREPARED MIMES
- Time limit 3 minutes
- No props , costume or makeup may be used at all. A group should consist of 3 to 6 performers.
ALL TIME LIMITS MUST BE STRICTLY OBSERVED
